Gaia project board game online5/16/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s a relatively simple thing to simply endure a three hour game of Gaia Project and reach the end, but it’s an entirely different prospect to choose a faction (from the fourteen fairly unique options), identify your optimal way of winning and then driving that plan to fruition – whilst at the same time handling the inevitable spanners thrown by your opponents. Gaia Project is, according to many, actually one of the heaviest and most complex modern board games to navigate, which is demonstrated by its Board Game Geek weight of around 4.30 (out of a possible 5.) This rating far exceeds the average for a typical eurogame and even other games that are considered heavy are considered as much as twenty five percent easier to pick up and run with.ĭespite this rating, Gaia Project isn’t actually that complex at a mechanical level, it simply asks an awful lot from the players in terms of foresight and planning, as well as moment to moment decision making. Gaia Project, as the name suggests, focuses on the seeding and cultivation of perfectly habitable planets all over the galaxy.Īs always in a eurogame, what that really means is that the player who collects the most points in Gaia Project will win, although when I put it like that, it oversimplifies the scope and scale of this ambitious game by quite a long way. In 2017 though, designers Jens Drogemuller and Helge Ostertag teamed up again to iterate their original design and release Gaia Project, a more or less direct sequel (in a mechanical sense) to the original game, albeit set around an entirely different theme. Re-implementations are common in the board gaming world, but with a game as classic as Terra Mystica, the decision to release a follow up must been a challenging one. ![]()

For a $2 million home, that would be $400 per year in 2020 and an increase of $589 per year in 2025, Medina says. ![]() The proposed increase of property taxes in Medina would increase the property tax by 20 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, Ketter says. "Fire services alone increased by nearly double that amount in 2019," the newsletter reads. A 1% increase of that is an additional $28,000, which is not enough to cover rising expenses. Sonic Mania is a good game, but after playing it through it’s also a game that I have no real inclination to play again, at least for a while. The jumping mechanic is missing a sense of floaty-ness that drops Sonic a bit too early for my liking. The slow moments of platforming are also rather rough and jumping to platforms while not traveling at blistering speeds is tedious. And while I mostly enjoyed the lack of hand holding, it can be a double edged sword that kills the enjoyment a little. (One of the most annoying of my deaths occurred while fighting a late game boss and dying without warning because I ran out of time). The fact that the game is made up of two levels per zone and that a game over sends you to the beginning of the first zone compounds this irritation. The game’s lack of explanation or time constraints lead to many annoying deaths. This sense of randomness is part of where Sonic Mania struggles. And I do mean “run into them” quite literally – there’s no real pattern to where they’re hidden in the various levels. They’re charming and a genuine surprise when you run into them. There are a ton of secret mini levels hidden throughout that range from racing to catch up with a robot to only collecting blue circles from a sea of other colors. Sonic Mania also manages to surprise throughout the course of it’s play time. The variety adds a welcome level of charm to the game, and combined with the classic soundtrack, and visuals makes for a throwback game with great presentation. The best ones managed to surprise me by not being conventional boss battles, like the level where you play Puyo Puyo against Dr. Each one requires a slightly different technique to defeat. Eggman’s menacing machinations that make up the game’s bosses are both visually and mechanically interesting. There are crab creatures, ladybugs, pirañas, wasps, metal sonics and many more!ĭr. The enemy variety and different ways in which speed is utilized is very well done, managing to hit the nostalgia of games from its era while not feeling old. There are twelve worlds that make up the game (including classics such as Green Hill Zone), and they are wonderfully diverse and visually striking. Sonic Mania is at its best when you’re barreling full speed down a ramp and bouncing off jump pads, all the while trying to avoid enemies. It’s clear from the beginning that Sonic Mania wants you to experiment and learn from your mistakes. ![]() ![]() There is very little handholding and tutorials simply don’t exist. The first level of Sonic Mania is a cheery and fast paced introduction to the world of Sonic. I can appreciate that as the fast pace is what I love most about Sonic Mania. It feels like the development team expected the people playing this game to be familiar with the Sonic franchise. ![]() The game throws you into the thick of the frenetically paced Sonic universe and with very little handholding, it’s at times overwhelming. Now that may sound like un-needed hyperbole, but I feel like it needs to be said. A disclaimer as this review begins, Sonic Mania is my first Sonic game and I had no real experience with the franchise before this title. ![]() Deepsleep alkaline5/16/2023 ![]() These devices are typically powered by batteries, the performance of which varies depending on environmental (such as temperature and humidity) as well as operational conditions (discharge rate and state-of-charge, SOC). This work reflects the strong symmetry of different aspects of designing a hybrid supercapacitor with high efficiency and reliability. Instead of using the traditional exponential rule, supercapacitors discharge according to a power law. An intriguing finding from the Drude model is the current-dependent behavior of the leakage-parallel resistance in the constant current discharge process. ![]() The parameters of both the fractional-order models and our suggested method were estimated using the least-squares regression fitting approach. Commercially available Nippon DLA and Green-cap supercapacitors were used to verify the Drude model by discharging them through a constant current source using a simple current mirror circuit. In this research article, we have used a Drude model based on free electrons (asymmetric nature) to describe the supercapacitor's discharging characteristics. Studies have shown that the use of quantum dots as electrodes in supercapacitors can significantly increase their effectiveness. Supercapacitors can be used with battery technology to create an effective energy storage system due to their qualities and precise characterization. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to existing methods for different batteries and working conditions, which mainly benefits from the ability of Peukert’s Law to better model the rate-capacity effect of the batteries.Ī supercapacitor is a type of electrical component that has larger capacitance, due to asymmetric behavior with better power density, and lower ESR (effective series resistance) than conventional energy-storage components. In order to evaluate the proposed method comprehensively, different primary batteries and working conditions (constant current, constant resistance, and emulated duty-cycle loads) are employed. This paper proposes a lightweight SOC estimation method, which applies Peukert’s Law to estimate the effective capacity of the battery and then calculates the SOC by subtracting the cumulative current consumption from the estimated capacity. However, accuracy of existing lightweight methods is not high, and their adaptability to different batteries and working conditions is relatively poor. Lightweight estimation methods are widely used in WSNs due to their low measurement and computation requirements. The experiments were conducted using the MICA2 wireless sensor node platform, which shows that the voltage-only-based estimation presented an available 18% of the battery maximum capacity, although the battery had been fully discharged, and a current-based estimation technique is presented with minimal hardware intervention.Īccurate state-of-charge (SOC) estimation is essential for maximizing the lifetime of battery-powered wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This paper presents an energy-efficient battery-remaining capacity-estimation technique. Therefore, the research of the state-of-charge (SoC), or the remaining capacity estimation, is of key importance. The knowledge of the available amount of energy becomes an important requirement for the maintenance, implementation of self-management techniques, and viability of the WSN. ![]() ![]() Sensor nodes should balance their limited resources to increase the lifetime of the network. In most applications, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) will deploy a large number of distributed sensor nodes in remote or inhospitable places, making batteries their main source of energy thus, the stored energy is a key resource of a WSN. ![]() Frostpunk game of the year edition5/16/2023 ![]() ![]() It is not possible to make everyone happy, not keep everyone alive. We must move ever forward like a drill5/15/2023 ![]() ![]() Quite so-but Perseverance will cover Martian ground far more rapidly, and its successors will do still better. Steve Swanson, who flew twice on the space shuttle and once to the International Space Station, points to the fact that Apollo 17’s astronauts covered 22 miles on the moon in three days, while the Curiosity rover on Mars traveled about 12 miles in more than six years. The scientific rationale for sending astronauts to Mars centers on the expectation that the long experience and human flexibility of scientifically trained astronauts will allow them to search through new locales and to discern special, perhaps unexpected features far more rapidly than any robot can. Although our robots will continue to increase their artificial intelligence, no one knows when, if ever, they can match us humans, though we must beware of a bias in assessing our own proficiency. They cannot match the brain of an experienced geologist-for now. For all of these except the choice of drilling locations, robots rather than humans can perform more safely, more easily, and less expensively. What would change if we replaced a fully automated investigation with one with on-site humans? To take sample return as an example, the tasks involved include reaching Mars, choosing the best locations to sample, drilling into the rocks or soil at those locations, extracting material and sealing it for study, bringing the material to Earth, and examining the samples with the instruments best suited to that task. We may use the Perseverance rover’s success on Mars to analyze the issue of how astronauts on Mars would improve the situation. Future breakthroughs in artificial intelligence could lead to self-guided Martian robots that would follow general instructions while performing the same tasks that human explorers would. and technology increase the robots’ abilities. The advantages that human explorers now hold over robots will continue to diminish as advances in A.I. The first Martian fly-by (1964), the first Martian orbiter (1971), the first Martian landers (1976), and the first Martian rover (1996) testify to our stubbornness and problem-solving abilities in overcoming the obstacles to exploring another planet. Nearly two dozen spacecraft destined for Mars have failed in their efforts, some on the launch pad, some in interplanetary space, and some on the Martian surface. In the last 60 years, half a dozen spacecraft have flown past Mars, and 15 others have orbited the planet seven have landed on Mars, and six rovers have traversed part of the Martian surface.
